Encouraging collaboration

Working well together is vital in what I do. As a designer, I rely on others to grasp problems and forge solutions. When the team has a shared understanding, the results are much better.

I know how collaboration works and understand the importance of creating a safe space where everyone can freely share their thoughts. There are many things that affect how well a team trusts each other, but in this section, I want to talk about the things I do to encourage collaboration among my peers.

Role

Senior Product Designer

Crafting participatory designs is truly one of my favourite things. An opportune moment arrived when a long-standing member of our design team bid farewell. With a deep fondness for sneakers, my colleague’s departure provided the perfect inspiration for a collaborative poster design. Offering a choice of three sneaker designs, participants had the chance to create their own unique artwork.

The chosen tool needed to be user-friendly and accessible to all. To fulfill this requirement, I set up a canvas in Figma, a design platform available to every member of our company. While the instructions provided guidance for navigating Figma, what made it even more enjoyable was how experienced users willingly assisted those less familiar with the tool. This dynamic not only resulted in intricate and innovative designs but also instilled a sense of empowerment as newfound skills were acquired.
